There are records of two court cases in 1892 in which D.B. Stewart & Co. sued R.M. Allen and J.W. Smith & Co. Also a small article in an Ithaca paper from 1868-1870 mentions that a Mr. Mott will be at the drug store of Gauntlett & Brooks on the 24th and 31st of this month (and in January) to receive taxes.
